After the approval of the parliament and endorsement of His Majesty the King, the National Economic and Social Advisory Council Act 2000 was put into effect on December 20th, 2000. The Act stipulates that NESAC members shall be selected within 90 days after the membership’s termination date. At the early stage of it enactment, Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) shall function as the Secretariat of NESAC and the Secretary-General of NESDB shall serve as the Secretary of NESAC. At present the NESAC Secretariat office has been established. The NESAC secretariat is a government office at the department level under the direct command of the Prime Minister.
Tasks and Responsibilities
NESAC Office, together with its Secretary-General operates under the supervision of NESAC chairman. Apart from the administrative and secretariat functions, the Office is responsible for providing surveys, research, studies and analysis that will be presented to NESAC. Being the Secretariat of the NESAC, the Office will serve the members in organizing meetings and preparing all the facilities and paperwork for their meeting. At the same time, the Secretariat Office is responsible for publishing an annual report on the suggestions and recommendations of NESAC as well as obstacles regarding working process of NESAC. The report is presented to the parliament and the ministerial cabinet.
The NESAC Secretariat Function:
1. To study, analysis, and provide information for NESAC
2. To support all NESAC daily operations.
3. To issue an annual report on NESAC achievements and problems to the attention of the cabinet and the parliament.
4. To provide the technical support to NESAC.
5. To handle the procedure for NESAC members selection.
6. To tend to others businesses as assigned by NESAC.
